Test your culinary skills with traditional and uncultivated crops

 

Sattvik 2004 is a unique attempt to sensitize the urbanites about the fast eroding traditional food habits as well as to prune their taste buds with tempting dishes made from uncultivated plants and minor millets. The contest aims at creating awareness among the urbane milieu about the valuable vegetation around them.

 

We eat various types of food, but are we aware of the nutritional values of these food items? Or do we even know how to make our food more nutritional for us? Day in and day out we eat food with the same taste. What are the effects of consuming the same foodstuff everyday on our body is of little knowledge to most of us. If the new recipe, which you have created, is successful in tickling one’s palate, be sure it will tickle the mass palate too…and only you will reap the rewards. But at the same time your endeavours will also see in an increase in the demands of these crops in the common market too.

 

The contest is divided into two categories:

 

Traditional recipes contest:

 

To participate in this category the medium of the recipes to be prepared from uncultivated plants and minor millets that do not constitute our daily food items. They are minor millets like kodra, rava, mandra, maize, jawar and kang. Recipes have to be made out of these food grains so as to reinstall these millets in our food habits as well as to develop its taste among the urban people.  You can also create some new items from these food grains by retaining their nutritional value even after cooking.

 

Recipes from uncultivated plants:

 

You have to prepare recipes from the vegetation around your homes. Many ladies till date have made chutneys, kadhis, vegetable items from leafy vegetables like morad, bathuwe, umra, vegetable items from gundi flowers, khatti imli flowers, etc. You too can make items from such uncultivated plants growing in your surroundings. This contest is open to all participants, male and female. Culinary prowess is not only a female domain!

 

Rules for contestants:

 

1.      Contestants have to send the name of the recipe, the list of ingredients and method of preparation at the earliest to our office.

2.      If the contestants participating in contest No 1 require such grains for their recipes, they can contact our office for help.

3.      Contestants cannot use any chemical food colour in the food items prepared.

4.      Contestants have to ensure that the nutritional value remains the same even in the cooked items.

5.      All the food items prepared will be 100 per cent vegetarian.

6.      Oil, ghee or clarified butter used as the medium of cooking will have to be as per health standards.

7.      Contestants will have to bear their own travel expenses.

8.      Contestants will be allowed free entry ion the fair.
