Child Labor Tracking System

Child labor tracking system is an Android application which allow the general mobile users to report to the authority if anywhere the child labor act is being practiced.

This application uses the features such as camera, Internet and GPS (Global positioning system) which are all available in the normal Android phone which most the mobile users have.

Users just need to install this app on to their cell phone. Whenever they come across any such incident, they should capture which is going to be the photo evidence of the incident. Soon after the photo capture, the app will track the location of the user with the exact latitude and longitude. App also allows the users to write a short description about the incident happened and all this data is submitted to the server maintained by respective authority.

In the first screenshot, I took a picture of something as an example, the location i.e latitude and longitude is identified, I written a small descriotion about the event, on pressing the report button. The second screenshot will be displayed.

The app got a simple user interface which can be used easily and press REPORT to submit the the evidences.

Difination

IT’S A MECHANISM WHICH LIFT A CONSTRUCTION SITE MATERIAL FROM BOTTOM TO TOP TOO HEAD OF WORKER WITHOUT ANY BENDING MOVEMENT BY THERE SELF WEIGHT.

It’s eliminate 2 things

1. Worker can lift a material without bending movement.

2. If construction site contractor accept the mechanism for workers. He unable to get work from child    labour because their weight should be above 35kg and height should be above 5ft.

IMPROVISED BROOM MAKING MACHINE

INITIATION

The journey started with identifying the problem of the people involved in broom making. For the first few days, we met the people residing on roadside who make brooms and sell them in local market. We were staggered by their problems. Some of their problems that we found are as follows:

  • The posture: they had to continuously sit on the floor in an uncomfortable posture. This is responsible for them experiencing pain in the back, thighs and arms as well.
  • At a time, only one broom can be made.
  • Also, the action of beating the broom for splitting the leaves is quite a troublesome.

    SELECTION OF A PROBLEM TO WORK UPON

    There are steps in broom making.

    1. The huge date stem like leaves are cut from the tree and brought at the place of broom making.
    2. The leaves are segregated from the stem and tied in a bundle.
    3. The handle of the bundle is covered with rubber strips (generally tubes of bicycles) so that it is easy to hold.
    4. The tied leaves are beaten on the pointed nails of the conventional tool till the leaves are properly split.

    Out of these four, we have improvised a pre-existing machine for the fourth action i.e. for leaf splitting

    • Posture
    • Number of brooms made per day
    • Number of brooms sold per day
    • Need for producing more brooms
    •  Feasibility of working with both hands
  • DESIGN PROCESSRome wasn’t built in a day neither was our design. The final design is a result of several improvisations in the pre-existing one.The first model suggested by us was driven by the sewing machine mechanism.

FINALLY FABRICATED THE DESIGN. . not to ignore the point that there are still many improvisations to be made.

FEEDBACK OF FACULTY ON THE MODELS, PEER CRITICISM AND REDESIGN OF THE DEVICES AND POSTPONING OR ABANDONING SOME POSSIBLE DIRECTIONS 

According to the feedback received by the faculty, we were advised to resume to the sewing machine pedal mechanism, but when we consulted our fabricator, he said that bicycle driven mechanism was suitable for this one.

Also, the experts had advised us to place only 1 drum instead of two; we enquired this with our broom makers whom we were in continuous touch with. They said that they could work with both hands. Thus, we adhered to our design.

We added another adjustable idle gear like structure so as to smoothen the pedaling operation. Also, a rod in  the center as a support was introduced. IMG_3183

My entire journey at SRISTI could be summed in what Robert Frost has once quoted:

“THE WOODS ARE LOVELY DARK AND DEEP,

In this version of load carrying device,the weight is distributed over the shoulders and the upper back,substituting the traditional way of carrying bricks on the head.The hands rest in an ergonomically comfortable position on the supports provided,thus also contributing in balancing the weight which is on the platform above.This device is made from stainless steel which is high in strength and at the same time very light

We went to a construction site for reinforcing a concept of wall making machine and ask him about feasibility of this machine.

Then we fixed all the dimensions and specifications according to need and requirement of him.

Idea generation to the Fabrication

Its the 13 working day of this summer school participants with the great efforts of our mentors and professors from various fields. Finally now we are ready to start the fabricating process after the model making and modifying processes. Although there are various modifications which can be still done as nothing is perfect, but we are trying to give our best.

Today we are approaching to various fabricators in the city to seek some help. It has been a very good and new experience to us from which we learned right from the idea generation, market survey, brainstorming to the designing, model making.

IMPROVISED BROOM MAKING MACHINE

”INNOVATION MAY BE INSTANTANEOUS BUT, IMPROVISATION ISN’T ”

In my words, our team has clearly lived up to the above thought. We as a team have gone through a number of improvisations in the earlier proposed model of the broom making machine. We have continuously  adapted to the newer models as per the needs of the user.

But, today our mentor Prof.Anil Gupta suggested some improvisations and we have come up with a newer model of this machine.

Sweeping Action Redefined

Hello friends,

This design is based on the concept of see-saw operation. There is a platform which may be inclined towards the ground and will be lifted by the pedal given at the leg-side of the user. When the user pushes the pedal, the wastage collected over the platform will directly be gathered into the bag .

The bag is mounted on the circular frame ; which can shrink manually; this enables to un-mount the bag when it filled up and mount another one.

There are flaps attached at the front side and the control of that flaps are given on the handle by which the user is moving the whole wheel barrow. This may give the ease in operation.

In its operation user moves the barrow towards the garbage pile and when one feels like to have enough garbage over the platform he would push the pedal and thus the garbage will slide into the garbage bag mounted on the shrinkable frame.

Easy in operation, good balancing, good volume of wastage can be handled with this equipment…
