Prof. Rakesh Basant

Ph.D. in Economics (Guj)

Current teaching and research interests include technology strategy & management, intellectual property rights, industrial organization, public policy and regulation. Recent work and publications have focused on competition policy, regulation in the telecom sector, role of inter-firm linkages & public policy in building technological capabilities, strategic & policy aspects of intellectual property rights (especially in agriculture, pharmaceutical & information technology areas), industrial clusters, economics of strategy and the small scale sector in India. His earlier research focused on a variety of issues relating to agricultural technology, indigenous knowledge in agriculture, labour markets and rural non-farm sector and he has published extensively in these areas. Dr Basant is a recipient of the of the Ford Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Economics and has spent two years at the Economic Growth Center, Yale University, U.S.A. as a Visiting Research Fellow. He has also worked as a consultant to the World Bank, Intermediate Technology Development Group, U.K. and the United Nations Institute of New Technologies, The Netherlands.

Editor of Honey Bee Newsletter, which promotes people to people networking and represents the voice of creative grassroots innovators, and has published widely.

Established two NGOs viz., Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) and Grassroots Innovation Augmentation Network (GIAN) as incubator to link innovation, investment and enterprise. Has also helped set up the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) by DST, Government of India ( 2000) and the National Micro Venture Innovation Fund (2003), at NIF with the support of SIDBI.

Received Padma Shri National Award, 2004, Joint recipient of Science-in-Society Award of Indian Science Congress, 2004; adjudged as one of the fifty most influential people in the field of intellectual property rights around the world in 2003; adjudged as one of the Star Personalities of Asia by Business Week, 2001, Asian Innovation Award Gold from Far Eastern Economic Review (Oct 26, 2000). Prof. Abraham Koshy

Teaching and research interests are in areas such as product policy, new product introduction strategy, brand management and strategic marketing. He is a co-author of a book and co-editor of two books. He has published several research papers and case studies in professional journals, contributed chapters in books, and presented papers in national, and international seminars. He is a consultant to several organizations in the areas of marketing strategy, product and brand management, and communication strategy. Organizations with which he has been associated with include international, national, and regional market leaders, new start-up companies, and private as well as public sector organizations. He has conducted Executive Development programmes for companies in India as well as abroad. He is a member in the Board of Directors of three public limited companies and member of advisory committees constituted by Government of India and industry associations. He is currently a member in the Advisory Committee on Marketing constituted by Small Industries Development Bank of India and a member of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. He was a visiting scholar at European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD) and at Group ESSEC, Paris and was a Visiting Faculty at S.T.University, France. Dr.S.N.Maity

Dr.Maity received his Ph.D in Engineering from I.T.B.H.U., Varanasi in 1996. He is currently Controller-General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, Mumbai.

Published several technical papers, successfully completed forty R&D projects and forty patents including three patents in US and in countries of Europe and Africa and got eleven patents commercialized.

Received National Design Award in 2000, CSIR Technology Award in 1995, NRDC Invention Award in 1995 and Gloden Jubilee CMRI Whitaker Award (1993-94).

Mr. David J Pratt

David Pratt is Executive Vice-President and Managing Director of M.CAM, Inc., which focuses on Patent Risk Management Systems Solutions, as well as the public policy activities of M.CAM.

Prior to joining M.CAM in 2000, Mr. Pratt was Senior Vice-President of Columbus Newport, a public policy and venture capital firm. Mr.Pratt was Senior Vice-President of the American Insurance Association from 1987-1999.

Mr.Pratt served as Chief of Staff for the United States Senate Majority Leader; Senator Robert C. Byrd, during President Reagon's first term. In that position, he managed Senate legislative and executive affairs for the Majority Leader.

Dr. David E Martin
President & CEO - M-CAM Inc

Dr. David Martin is the founding CEO of M-CAM Inc - a Charlottesville Virginia corporation that developed and commercialized the world's first international intellectual property auditing systems to identify the commercial validity and value of IP. As the architect of the actuarial and analytic systems underpinning state of the art financial institution asset risk management systems, Dr. Martin has been at the forefront of IP management system development for over a decade. Dr. Martin has been an Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia's School of Medicine, a lecturer in Engineering and Business at universities around the world, founded and was Executive Director of the first for-profit R&D corporation wholly owned by the University of Virginia's Health Services Foundation and has founded numerous businesses internationally in for-profit and non-profit settings. Dr. Martin was the founder and CEO of Mosaic Technologies Inc., an international technology transfer and competitive intelligence company, was the founder of the Charlottesville Venture Group, a non-profit venture aggregation organization in the mid-Atlantic region, and serves on numerous corporate and civic boards in the U.S. and Asia.

For the past decade, Dr. Martin has worked with State and Federal government agencies in the United States, Europe and Asia on the development of technology transfer practices and policies. Dr. Martin has provided input and authored legislation regarding intellectual property protection and intellectual property financing standards for compliance with the Uniform Commercial Code. A frequent speaker and author - Martin's expertise includes advanced computational database interrogation, intellectual property law and finance, international finance, and history.

More than twenty years of experience in the international patenting of CSIR inventions and patent information manangement and IP laws.

Received training in international patent examination, patent information management , administration of intellectual property and innovation mangement at European, japanese, Sedish Paent Offices, USPTO, WIPO and United Nations University.

Lectured at international conferences in US and Europe. Published more than twenty research papers in various national and international journals on IP management and operation of IP laws.

Member of various governmental committees on IPRs.

Conducted a number of training programmes, conferences on IP laws and IP management throughout the country.
