Rakesh Basant

in Economics (Guj) Current teaching and research interests include technology strategy & management, intellectual property rights, industrial organization, public policy and regulation. Recent work and publications have focused on competition policy, regulation in the telecom sector, role of inter-firm linkages & public policy in building technological capabilities, strategic & policy aspects of intellectual property rights (especially in agriculture, pharmaceutical & information technology areas), industrial clusters, economics of strategy and the small scale sector in India. His earlier research focused on a variety of issues relating to agricultural technology, indigenous knowledge in agriculture, labour markets and rural non-farm sector and he has published extensively in these areas. Dr Basant is a recipient of the of the Ford Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Economics and has spent two years at the Economic Growth Center, Yale University, U.S.A. as a Visiting Research Fellow. He has also worked as a consultant to the World Bank, Intermediate Technology Development Group, U.K. and the United Nations Institute of New Technologies, The Netherlands.

interests include expansion of global as well as local space for
grassroots innovators to ensure recognition,
respect and reward for them; blending excellence in formal and informal
science; protection of intellectual property rights; ethical issues in
conservation and prospecting of biodiversity; research management linking
innovations, investments and enterprise; institution building in
agricultural research systems; leadership for social change; organic
farming; sociopolitical transformation towards a meritocratic society;
creating knowledge network at different levels for augmenting grassroots
green innovations, ecological economics, and development of multimedia
multi language database on innovations to overcome the barriers of
language, literacy, and localism. Editor of Honey Bee which promotes
people to people networking and represents the voice of creative
grassroots innovators. Has
published extensively in national and international journals and
magazines. Consultant to several national and international
organizations. Established
Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and
Institutions (SRISTI) and Grassroots Innovation Augmentation Network (GIAN),
two NGOs, respectively to support Honey Bee Network and to scale up and
convert grassroots innovations into viable products.
Also helped set up the NIF (National Innovation Foundation) by
Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, to help India
become an inventive and creative society and a global leader in
sustainable technologies. Helping
set up First National Micro Venture Fund as per the announcement by
Finance Minister in his budget speech, 2002. Received Pew Conservation Scholar Award, 1993, Star Of Asia award, Business Week, 2001; Asian Innovation Award Gold from Far Eastern Economic Review (Oct 26, 2000) for coordinating SRISTI and Honey Bee Network; and nominated for World Technology Award, (Environment) 2001 UK.

Pathak has been researching
on how law relates to practices. Parallel to publishing academic books and
articles, he has been innovating on making law relevant for managers. He
has conducted several programmes on food laws.

Piyush Kumar Sinha Off:

6325004 Ph.D. (SPU) Specialization in the areas of services marketing and retailing. Has had extensive experience in academics and industry. Prior to joining IIMA, was Dean at Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA). Has also taught at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and XIM, Bhubaneswar. During the tenure in the corporate world, worked as a Marketing Manager for Gujarat Gas and Rasna. Has several publications as papers, cases, and books.
