The Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI) is a non-governmental organisation which was set up in 1993 to strengthen the capacity of grassroots inventors, innovators and ecopreneurs engaged in conserving biodiversity and developing eco-friendly solutions to local problems. This is being achieved by:
Protecting the intellectual property rights of grassroots innovators,
and generating models for recognizing, respecting and rewarding
creativity;
Experimenting in order to add value to their knowledge,
Embedding the insights learned from technological and institutional
innovations developed by individuals as well as communities in the
educational systems so that conceptual and cognitive space for these
innovations expands with passage of time;
Developing entrepreneurial ability in order to generate returns from
this knowledge, and enriching people's and providers' (scientists,
leaders, and administrators) cultural and institutional basis for dealing
with nature.
