Bullocks are prone to urinary blockage because their urinary track is not straight
as in the case of cows. This facilitates deposition of the stones. Rehmatbhai, a
veterinary healer of char village, has been using a simple method to treat
animals.
Roots of `lajamani' a local plant (Botanical name Mimosa Pudica), are
crushed and the juice is extracted. Sometimes
the entire plant with root is used for the purpose. The juice is boiled and cooled
and approximately 500 ml of this is administered to the animal. This practice helps
in urination by removing obstructing stones from the urinary canals.
This herb grows wild in monsoon. It also grows at other times provided water is
available. It is a sensitive plant and curls up when touched. Hence it is called
`lajamani' meaning `the shy one'. Because of his selfless services, Rehmatbhai
though a Muslim has been known as 'Gopal Bapa', a name given to Hindu Lord Krishna.
He is also skilled at operating animals if there is an abnormal delivery problem in
the animal. He renders his services free of cost round the clock. As a process of
ongoing efforts to reward the creativity at grassroots by SRISTI, Rehmatbhai was
conferred the "SRISTI Samman" award by SRISTI recently.
