In the drought prone area of Amreli in Gujarat, it was increasingly difficult to use
farm animals to plough the land. Keeping bullock was not viable for many farmers due
to fodder scarcity and labour had become scarce, as the tough times had led to
migration to the towns. In search of a solution, the villagers went to Mansukhbhai
Jagani, who had been a self-motivated researcher in farming for the past ten
years.
Inspired by a local mode of transport, the three-wheel taxi, Mansukhbhai designed
the 'Bullet Santi', utilizing the Enfield bullet - a powerful motorcycle. The
motorcycle's rear wheel was removed and replaced with an attachment with two wheels.
Once a tool bar was fixed to the attachment this unique machine could plough, weed
and sow seeds. The petrol motorcycle was converted into a diesel one driven by a 5.5
H.P engine allowing the Bullet Santi to be cost effective and fuel
efficient.

than the bullocks.
