Relief work by HBNC members
In view of the recent devastation in Tamil Nadu due to the Tsunami the 14th Shodh Yatra organised by the Honey Bee network will be in Nagappatinam, Tamil Nadu. This Shodh Yatra will be a Seva, Samarpan and Samvedana Yatra and will start on the 17th of January and last till the 24th of January, 2005. Once the extent of the disaster became clear, one of the collaborators of the Honeybee network, Sustainable-agricultural and Environmental Voluntary Action (SEVA) Madurai, sent us a list of the priority of the needs of the affected people. The necessities include vessels, utensils, tarpaulins, ration materials like rice, sugar, bread and medicine. Cloths are of secondary importance and in some places; people are not accepting old cloths. However bed sheets / blankets are needed. Cash is also required to renovate the damaged houses, recover boats, purchase new fish nets etc.
Responding to this need, material for a relief truck was collected by the members of the network and sent to Tamil Nadu and we are happy to receive news that this material was distributed in eight villages. We take this opportunity to thank all associated with the Honeybee network and the other organisations that provided us with this opportunity to serve the needy. Special mention needs to be made of those who helped us with their encouragement and contributions namely S. Ranjodh Singh (GS radiators), Karamjet Grewal (school teacher), Dalip Singh Kapoor(engineer), Kulwinder Singh(publisher), Suraj Parkash(baker) and Budh singh Neelon, Nankoo, Mali, Thakur and Mukhtiar Singh (the staff of Punjabi Sahit academy) who helped in the packing and sorting. We are also planning to collect more things which would be useful and will send these as soon as we are able to collect truck fare.
We have received donations fron the following people to help TSUNAMI victims.
