Emergency Contact Details - Tsunami Disaster - 26 December 2004

Please do not use these numbers for non-specific enquiries, channels of communication are limited in the disaster regions.

Australian Government- Australians in need of consular assistance should contact the Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra on +61 1300 555 135. Australians directly affected by the tsunami can call 1800 057 111 Australians concerned about relatives or friends in affected areas should call the Consular Emergency Centre in Canberra on 1800 002 214.

Canadian Government- The Operations Centre of Foreign Affairs Canada operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. An experienced officer is always available to respond to emergency call from anywhere in the world. Canadian citizens outside Canada can call collect to (613) 996-8885. For calls originating in Canada and the U.S., call 1-800-267-6788, or (613) 944-6788. You can also communicate via TTY by dialling 1-800-394-3472 (in Canada and the U.S.) or (613) 944-1310

Chinese Government- The Foreign Ministry has a hotline 86-10-65963511, to help the public track down relatives and friends in South and Southeast Asia. The hotline set up by Hong Kong authorities is (852) 2829 3010.

Greek Government - The Foreign Ministry hotlines are 210.368.1212, 210.368.1730 and 210.368.1360 for relatives or friends to report Greek citizens in to the latter two categories.

New Zealand Government - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade has set up a New Zealand hotline for people concerned about relatives or friends in the region affected. The number is 0800 432 111. Callers from outside New Zealand should phone +64 4 439 8000

Republic of Ireland - For consular assistance these telephone numbers are available : + 353 1 408 2308, + 353 1 408 2585, + 353 1 408 2302, + 353 1 408 2833, + 353 1 408 2876

UK Government - The FCO emergency telephone number is 0207 008 0000

US Government - For concerns on locating US citizens contact the Office of American Citizens Services at (202) 647-5225/5226.
