About SRISTI

SRISTI (Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions) is a voluntary not-for-profit organization set up to strengthen the creativity of grassroots inventors innovators and ecopreneurs engaged in conserving biodiversity and developing eco-friendly solutions to local problems. Through the Honey Bee Network, SRISTI has scouted and identified innovative solutions to address local problems for over 26 years. SRISTI also nurtures ecopreneurs engaged in conserving biodiversity, common property resources, cultural diversity and educational innovators.

SRISTI partners with a range of international agencies with similar objectives and is currently implementing a project in partnership with USAID’s (United States Agency for International Development), Food Security Office (FSO) in India on “Agriculture Innovation Bridge: Feed the Future: India Africa Innovations in Farm Mechanization”. Under this partnership, SRISTI is transferring three technologies to Kenya.

Request for Proposal (RFP)

SRISTI is seeking a Request for Proposal from film-makers and video production companies/individuals to develop short films (filmlets) and capture high-resolution pictures on SRISTI’s Technology Transfer project in Kenya. Preference will be given to the filmmakers who have a good track record of working with renowned international developmental agencies or international not-for-profits in the development sector. Each filmlet is expected to be of 4 to 7 minutes duration.

The filmlets will provide an overview of the impacts and success stories of the project and the lessons learned, in the form of interviews and activities at the project sites.

The objective of the filmlets is to:

Targeted Audience:

The filmlets will be made publicly available to all relevant stakeholders and will be posted on SRISTI and its partners’ websites

Scope of Work

The film-maker will assist the SRISTI team in the technical aspects of pre-production, production and post-production of the filmlets. The key areas of assistance will include:

  1. Pre-Production:

    a. Participate in discussions and meetings with SRISTI staff and implementing partners on the development of the script and work plan whenever required.

    b. Present a storyboard to SRISTI for approval. 

    c. Advise on voiceover narration and animation sequencing.

  2. Production:

    a. Produce a film according to the agreed script and work plan, which will include travel and shooting in rural areas in Kenya and India. This will entail travel to activity sites in rural areas

    b. Incorporate filming suggestions and feedback from the pre-production meetings.

  3. Post-Production:

    a. Develop still photographs and infographics to have a complete communications package for the project.

    b. Carryout video interviews with direct project beneficiaries, SRISTI and other implementing partners.

  4. c. Execute the narrative for the videos and direct a visual narrative to produce pieces that are succinct and    cohesive.

    d. Develop animations, photo inserts and other visual aids as necessary.

    e. Incorporate editing suggestions and feedback from the pre-production / production meetings.

    f. Adjust color-correction, exposure, and audio syncing.

    g. Identify and insert non-copyright background music.

    h. Subtitle edited video in English.

    i. Deliver high-resolution version.

    j. Any other activities towards finalization of the filmlets.

Other details:

Language: The filmlets will contain audio from non-English speaking clients and English voiceover narration. All audio will be supported with English-language subtitles.

Video Format: The filmlets will be compatible with all video formats, especially with “.mov, mpeg and .mp4” file formats.

Subjects: The filmlets will depict all individuals with respect and dignity.

Duration: The work under this contract should be completed within two months from the commencement date.

RFP Submission

Interested filmmakers may submit the RFP containing:

  1. Description of organization (or CV in the case of individuals) with details of infrastructure, credentials, Point of Contact, team composition etc.
  2. Approach towards implementing the Scope of Work and deliverables.
  3. Timelines for completing the filmlets.
  4. Financial Proposal with detailed breakup. Travel costs will be borne by SRISTI but travel related requirements should be specified in the RFP
  5. Samples of previous related film-making assignments, with links wherever possible.
  6. Two references (of clients during the past 3 years).
